Jaipur’s newly elected MP Ramcharan Bohra achieved his thunderous victory by defeating Congress candidate Jyoti Khandelwal by over four lakh votes. Bohra faced stiff opposition from the party ranks, after the party lost five assembly segments of Jaipur in the assembly polls. He proved them wrong by securing a massive lead in all these five state assembly segments, which went to the Congress in assembly polls in December 2018.
In a brief interview with TOI, he shared his vision for Jaipur.
What is your vision for Jaipur?
Ans: My first and foremost priority is to continue all developmental work, leading the great Pink City to be known as a world-class heritage city. Development should be based on adopting the modern advancement in technology, while adding all elements of our rich cultural heritage.
Besides the larger aim, my consistent focus will be on addressing the major problem of scarcity of drinking water in Jaipur and surrounding areas, by turning the much-awaited eastern canal project into a reality. The completion of the remaining 27km stretch of the Ring Road is also high on the cards, along with the promotion of tourism by the centrally sponsored scheme.
Any three reasons why people of Jaipur voted for you, despite voting for the Congress in Vidhan Sabha polls?
Ans: Development work by PM Narendra Modi in the last five years, which is visible in every nook and corner of the city, is the main reason for my success in the polls. Secondly, people’s unflinching faith in Modi ji for offering a safe, secure and stable government. Lastly, the failure of the Congress government in the state has put the last nail in the coffin of the Congress bogey.
Is caste a factor in your thunderous victory?
Ans: BJP believes in ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’. This mandate is way above the caste politics played by Congress party from the past five decades. People from every nook and corner of Jaipur, irrespective of caste and creed, have voted for me.
