JAMSHEDPUR: The
East Singhbhum district administration is gearing up for the May 23 counting day. The EVMs have been kept in the strongroom setup at
Co-operative College in Jamshedpur.
Sources in the district administration said counting of votes from the Baharagora assembly segment will be completed first on May 23. Sources said Baharagora assembly segment had 264 polling booths. The counting of votes for this segment would be completed in 19 rounds.
As many as 14 tables have been allocated for counting of the EVMs from this place.
Counting of votes from Ghatshila assembly segment would be taken up next. Sources said Ghatshila had 291 polling stations. The counting would be completed in 20 rounds and 15 tables have been allocated for this.
It would be followed by Potka assembly segment. Here there were 326 polling booths. Counting would be completed in 21 rounds and 16 tables have been allocated for this area.
Jugsalai assembly segment which had 381 polling booths (an area with both rural and urban voters). 20 tables have been allocated for counting, which will be completed in 20 rounds.
Jamshedpur East (an assembly segment from where chief minister Raghubar Das is the sitting MLA) had 293 polling booths. Here the counting would be done in 20 rounds. Sources said polling officers would complete the counting process in this high-profile constituency on 15 tables.
Jamshedpur West assembly segment which always had a wait-and-watch situation in all the past polls due to a large section of minority voters had 381 polling booths. It may be mentioned here that this assembly is in the kitty of BJP. Results of this segment will be declared last. Here the counting would be completed in 21 rounds. Sources said EVMs would be counted on 16 tables.
VVPAT slips: Sources said this time the formal announcement of the winning candidate and presentation of the certificate would take more time than usual as VVPAT slips would also be scrutinized of five EVMs, as per the top court directives, which was agreed by poll panel.
Election deposit: Sources said those candidates (for
Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat) who will win less than 1.90 lakh votes would lose their deposits. Notably, the total votes polled in for the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat was 11,43,054. According to the election commission rules those candidates who gets less than one-sixth of the total votes polled in that particular LS seat, would lose their deposits. Here in Jamshedpur this time one-sixth votes equals to 1,90,433.
