JAMSHEDPUR: Chief minister Raghubar Das was given a rousing welcome when he arrived here on Sunday, days after BJP-led NDA won 12 of 14 Lok Sabha seats in the just-concluded elections in Jharkhand. BJP leaders and workers gathered outside Sonari airport in large numbers to congratulate him for the saffron party's performance in the 17th Lok Sabha polls in Jharkhand.
Led by district BJP president Dinesh Kumar, a host of senior leaders received the chief minister with bouquets and garlands amid the beating of drums and slogans prasing Das.
Party workers showered flower petals on Das and some of them even jostled to shake hand with the CM. "The win in 11 constituencies (BJP ally Ajsu-P won in Giridih constituency) calls for celebration. But the chief minister deserves a special mention for our performance in Santhal Pargana," said a party leader.
Adequate security arrangements were put in place to ensure order at the airport. However, traffic movement in the periphery of the airport was hit for several minutes as police managed to control the unexpected footfall of crowd.
The CM told mediapersons later that the party is confident of winning the assembly elections with two-thirds majority. "The results of the Lok Sabha have proved that the opposition parties have lost the trust of the people. The voters have realised that only BJP, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, can deliver on its promise of development and prosperity," Das said.
