Jamshedpur toddler rape accused taken on remand, head yet to be recovered

JAMSHEDPUR: Police are yet to find the severed head of the toddler from Purulia in West Bengal, who was raped and murdered after she was kidnapped from Tatanagar station. Rail SP Ehtesham Waquarib told TOI on Tuesday that the three accused in the case have been taken on remand and are being interrogated.
He said, on the second day of the three-day remand period, prime accused Rinku Shah and Kailash Kumar during the course of quizzing said they were in an inebriated state when they murdered the kid and cut her head so they could not remember where they had disposed the body and head.
They confessed that they had committed the crime.
Notably, police have also taken the third accused Monu Mandal. Monu in remand who was arrested by the cops after the kid’s mother alleged that Monu had helped Rinku and Kailash to kidnap her daughter. The kid was abducted when she was sleeping beside her mother on the platform.
After the end of the remand period the trio would be sent back to Gagidih Central Jail.
The SP added that hunt is still on to recover the head of the kid, who went missing from the station on July 25. On July 30 the torso of the kid was recovered from Ramdin Bagan area in Jamshedpur.
It may be mentioned here that the case has been registered under Pocso Act and police are trying to file the chargesheet as soon as possible.
