Jamshedpur toddler rape-and-murder case: DNA tests to be conducted in Gujarat laboratory

JAMSHEDPUR: Tatanagar rail police sent the recovered skull of the toddler to Gujarat for DNA tests. The three-year-old kid was kidnapped on July 25 from Tatanagar station premises.
After that the kid was raped by two youths, the girl from Purulia in Bengal was later killed and her severed head and body were disposed in Ramdin Bagan area under Telco police station.

One of the accused was a habitual offender and out on bail.
On the allegation of kid’s mother, Monu Mandal was arrested by police. The mother had alleged that Monu had been instrumental in the kidnapping of the kid.

Later, police nabbed Rinku Shau and Kailash Kumar, both in their 30s in this connection. Police managed to seize the torso from the dump yard outside the wall of a factory premises. The head was traceless for several days. Shau and Kumar had confessed that they had raped the child.

After taking the trio in police remand for three days, police didn't recover the head.
Meanwhile, a case was registered under Pocso. The severed head was found on Aug 9 from Ramdin Bagan area, when stray dogs were nibbling it.

Sources said police first had thought that the DNA test of the head would be conducted at Ranchi-based laboratory but later sensing that there may be a delay in the process, the decision was taken to send it the Gujarat laboratory.
Sources said the police team, who had earlier gone to Ranchi for the test have returned. On Saturday, a police team carrying the head and blood samples left for Gujarat by Ahmedabad express.
Sensing the gravity of the situation, police are in a hurry to file chargesheet in the case so that the guilty are punished. Once the chargesheet is filed police will be able to hand over a compensation amount to the toddler’s mother.
