JAMSHEDPUR: The chances of the state's first women's varsity, Jamshedpur Women University, admitting students from the 2019-20 academic session appear bleak, as the state government is yet to issue the notification for the appointment of the VC and registrar there.
Following the inauguration of the women varsity in February this year, it was assumed that the two key appointments shall be made within a couple of months and subsequently the admission process will commence, but that's not happening any time soon.

"Without the appointment of the registrar and VC, there's no way admission can start," the proctor of Kolhan University (KU), A K Jha, said.
Notably, Jamshedpur Women's College (JWC), which has been upgraded to Jamshedpur Women University (JWU), is a constituent unit of KU. Admissions, however, will take place under JWC.
The official told TOI that notification for the appointments to the two key posts rests with the state government. "Admissions for intermediate classes are underway for KU, not JWU," Jha said.
Earlier, during the laying of the foundation of the new building of the women university by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 3, CM Raghubar Das had said efforts would be made to ensure that classes commence soon.
"If the government thinks it needs more time to select the new VC and registrar, then it could give the additional responsibility to the existing VC and registrar of KU for the time being to ensure that the admission process gets underway immediately," said a varsity official on the condition of anonymity.
"If the government prefers to wait till the completion of the ground floor of the new women varsity building to begin admissions, then it will have to wait till the next academic year," the KU source added.
