JAMSHEDPUR: The district administration sealed parts of Govindpur on Thursday, after six members of a family in the neighbourhood tested positive for Covid-19 a day earlier. This is the first time any area in the Steel City has been marked as a containment zone.
Nearly 250 families reside in the containment zone, while an equal number of families live in the neighbouring buffer zone.

East Singhbhum DC Ravi Shankar Shukla and SSP M Tamil Vanan visited the locality on Thursday to oversee health and administrative arrangements.
“One volunteer will be deployed for every 10 houses to cater to the essential needs of the locals,” the DC said, adding that the contact numbers of the volunteers will be made available to the residents in the containment zone.
Vanan said police teams will keep a vigil to prevent the movement of people in the containment zone.
Notably, three members of a family who were first put in home quarantine following their return from Delhi on May 10, and then shifted to institutional quarantine tested positive on Wednesday.
Along with the trio, three other members of the family, including a three-year-old, also tested Covid-positive.
According to sources, anganwadi sevikas and sahiyas have been asked to survey families living in the containment and the buffer zones. The buildings in the locality will also be sanitised, and blood and swab samples of residents collected for Covid-19 test.
