Kanpur: Betrayed in love, woman commits suicide

KANPUR: A 24-year-old woman reportedly committed suicide in Panki area of the city on Thursday.
The woman, identified as Rashmi Yadav, was living with her parents and siblings in Gangaganj area in Panki. She hanged herself to death in her room on Thursday afternoon.
According to SHO Panki Ajay Pratap Singh, sources in her family said that the woman took the extreme step after betrayal by her boyfriend who had promised to marry her but later backtracked.She had also lodged a complaint last month accusing him of exploiting her over the promise of marriage.
“As per the family, since then Rashmi was in depression. We have taken possession of her mobile and will study call details for further action,” police said. The body was sent for postmortem.“We are yet to receive a complaint against her alleged boyfriend from her parents,” police said.
Boy drowns: The body of an eight-year-old boy was found floating in a pond at Maharajpur's Lachaniyapurwa, on Thursday morning. Sources said the child, Kallu, had gone to a nearby field with cattle on Wednesday but did not return.
Kallu’s family launched a search but in vain. On Thursday morning, locals came across his body floating in the pond and apprised his parents. They later alerted local police. The police sent the body for autopsy.
