Black buck killed by stray dogs in Kanpur
KANPUR: In an unfortunate incident, a black buck was allegedly killed by stray dogs in Kakwan area of the district on Friday.
The black buck was spotted lying with multiple wounds by locals in Ambari Khurd village at around 10 am. They rushed with it to a nearby hospital, but the schedule I animal of the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 succumbed on way. The forest officials were informed about the death and the carcass was sent to the veterinary hospital for postmortem.
"We were apprised by locals of Ambari Khurd village that a black buck has suffered critical injuries after being attacked by stray dogs of the area.
The villagers tried to provide medical aid to animal, but it died. We later apprised forest officials about the incident, who reached the spot and took carcass into their custody for further investigation," said SHO Kakwan Indrajeet Yadav.
A senior forest officer, said the exact cause of the death can be ascertained only after the postmortem report."It was young and there was lot of blood on the body,” he said.
The villagers alleged that the stray dog menace had become a big challenge to the protection of wildlife in the area. The drying up of water sources in the summer is also to be blamed for it. And animals are paying with their lives for it.
"Due to shrinking green cover, wild animals are losing their habitat. The animals are facing food and water scarcity due to massive deforestation. Hence many times wild animals come out of forest areas and enter human habitats in search of food and water," said environmentalist Rakesh Jaiswal. To recall here, a young deer was found dead near an Ashram on Bithoor-Kalyanpur road in the City on Wednesday.
