City Metro gets NOCs from govt depts
Kanpur: The ambitious Kanpur Metro project has received no-objection certificates (NOCs) from all major government departments, except the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which is also expected soon.
Kanpur Development Authority (KDA), which is the nodal agency for Kanpur Metro project, will acquire Metro's route map marked with existing utilities from different departments within next 10 days.

After this, planning for shifting of these utilities will be made.
Utilities such as electricity poles, sewage lines falling on the metro route between IIT-Kanpur in Kalyanpur and Moti Jheel will have to be shifted to enable the laying of Metro line. In the first phase, Kanpur Metro will run between IIT and Moti Jheel.
A meeting of the officials of various government departments was held on Monday to discuss the future plan of action. During the meeting, it came to light that NOC from all departments had been received, except NHAI, for which the central government had been contacted.
“We will get NOC from NHAI in next two days. Since NHAI comes under the central government, we have already written to the authorities concerned,” KDA chairperson Kinjal Singh told TOI.

She said the departmental heads or their representatives had been provided the Metro alignment map. “Representatives or heads of various government departments have been asked to provide Metro's route map (Metro alignment map) marked with existing utilities so that in the next meeting it can be planned how to relocate them,” she added.
“We will also contact private mobile service providers to inform them that they would have to relocate their mobile towers coming in the way of Metro,” Singh said.
She said all utilities would be shifted by the Kanpur Metro team, except the ones belonging to Kanpur Electricity Supply Company (KESCo).
“KDA will provide the budget to KESCo to carry out the shifting work,” she added.
The second phase of Metro project would be constructed between the Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture Technology and Barra.
