CS to chair Kanpur Metro meet on Aug 5
Kanpur: A meeting of senior government officials, to be chaired by the chief secretary, is likely to be held in the state capital on August 5 to work out technicalities for starting work in the first phase of Kanpur Metro.
In the proposed meeting, the officials are expected to discuss two main issues--land acquisition for the Metro project and removing encroachments, said a source.
If all hurdles coming in the way of the project are removed, it is expected the construction work of Kanpur Metro would pick up pace in the month of October, the source added.
In the first phase, Kanpur Metro will run between between IIT and Motijheel in Swaroop Nagar. To ensure construction of Metro stations and laying of tracks, Kanpur Development Authority (KDA), which is the nodal agency of Kanpur Metro, will have to remove shanty shops, public toilets and huge garbage collection points.
The officials of Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC), KDA and Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) had recently conducted a survey of the route of Kanpur Metro and found shanty shops, public toilets etc coming in the way of the Metro route, the source said. The team also noticed a public toilet in Kalyanpur, a nullah between Gurudev crossing and Rawatpur station and a parking lot opposite Rawatpur crossing coming in the way of construction of the Metro railway, the source added.
