Kanpur: Elderly couple stabbed in loot bid, accused held

An elderly couple was critically injured after being attacked with a knife during an alleged robbery attempt in their house in Barra-5 area of the city on Saturday. The attacker, who was trying to flee, after being nabbed by locals, was handed over to the police after severe thrashing.

KANPUR: An elderly couple was critically injured after being attacked with a knife during an alleged robbery attempt in their house in Barra-5 area of the city on Saturday. The attacker, who was trying to flee, after being nabbed by locals, was handed over to the police after severe thrashing.
According to police, Vinod Dwivedi (65), a retired principal, was repeatedly attacked on his chest by the robber on Saturday morning.
When Dwivedi’s wife Veena (60), tried to rescue him, she too was attacked and suffered stab wounds. The two have been admitted to a hospital. The attacker has been identified as their former employee.
On Saturday morning while Vinod Dwivedi was busy attending daily chores along with wife Vimla, their former employee Bablu, who had earlier worked as a labourer in their house, visited them and asked them to give him some work as he was jobless.
“Later, he asked Dwivedi’s wife Veena to give him a glass of water. As soon as she went to the kitchen to bring water, he attacked her husband repeatedly with a knife in his chest. Hearing his cries, when Vimla rushed to his rescue, Bablu attacked her too with a knife. The profusely bleeding couple slumped on the ground and in the meantime, the crook tried to escape,” said inspector Barra Atul Kumar Srivastava.
On coming acrosss commotion, the neighbours rushed to the spot and managed to nab the criminal. After severe thrashing, they handed him to the police.
“An FIR has been lodged at Barra police station. We are questioning Bablu about the motive behind the murderous attack on the elderly couple. Preliminary investigations have revealed that Bablu had committed the offence for gain,” inspector Barra further said.
