Engineer caught taking bribe from businessman

The CBI on Friday arrested an assistant engineer of KDA (Zone-1) Rajeev Gupta, for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 15 lakh from complainant Ashfaq Ansari, a tannery owner.

KANPUR: The CBI on Friday arrested an assistant engineer of KDA (Zone-1) Rajeev Gupta, for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 15 lakh from complainant Ashfaq Ansari, a tannery owner.
One Amit Gupta, who is a land department clerk (LDC) of Air Force Chakeri station, had already been arrested in this connection on Thursday.
Amit Gupta had recently visited Ansari and asked him to show the NOC against the tannery unit raised by him close to the Air Force Chakeri station.
When Ansari failed to show him the same, he allegedly threatened him to either pay or he will get his factory demolish by the KDA.
"Ansari lodged a complaint with the CBI, which laid a trap and caught Amit Gupta red-handed when he came to collect the bribe at a jewellery shop in Lal Bangla area on Thursday," CBI said. A CBI release said in Lucknow that an FIR has been registered and the arrested accused were scheduled to be produced before the competent court at Lucknow.
