IIT-Kanpur mulls super-speciality hospital & medical college
IIT-Kanpur
KANPUR: After pioneering science and engineering, IIT-Kanpur is now set to become a leader in imparting medical education to students.
This will be the first time in Uttar Pradesh that an IIT will be imparting medical education and conduct research in medical science besides offering courses in science and engineering.
The IIT-K administration has proposed to set up a 500-bed super-speciality hospital and a medical college and has an estimated budget outlay of Rs 800 crore.

The institute’s authorities are preparing a detailed project report (DPR) which will be sent to the central government for approval. IIT-K authorities are hopeful that they would receive green signal from the government.
Deputy director, IIT-K, Prof Manindra Agarwal said, “A 500-bed hospital will be set up near Shivli end of the institute’s campus. The hospital will cater to the residents of Kanpur as well as the members of IIT-K community. The hospital will be set up on 20-acre land.”
Prof Agarwal said that the students would be able to pursue courses such as MBBS, MD and MS. Once the project gets government nod and the hospital comes up on IIT-K campus, it would be one of the largest hospitals in the city equipped with modern medical facilities.
The health centre at IIT-K provides medical facilities to the campus community but for major ailments or complications, they have to seek treatment at private hospitals in the city.
