KANPUR: The IIT-Kanpur has developed a new type of
horseshoe that will have a longer life, thus saving the horses from the excruciating pain they have to undergo while changing them.
The current type of horseshoe that the animal wears, gets weary in four-five days, while the new horseshoe is supposed to last at least a month.
Rita Singh, convener,
Rural Technology Action Group, IIT, said an iron rod is used to make the horseshoe which has less carbon and thus it comes off easily.
Professor Sandeep Sangal and K Chandrashekhar were working on the said project for the last 14 months.
There have been no changes in the horseshoe as much except the
traditionally made horseshoe was heated at a high temperature and then cooled which increases its life 3-4 times. It does not, however, changes any property.
Later free samples of the horseshoe were distributed away to the
horse owners.Read this story in Hindi
