Kanpur: Cop accused of rape, FIR registered

A sub-inspector posted at Makanpur police outpost here has been booked for allegedly raping a woman and forcing her to undergo abortion. The woman alleged in her complaint that she had gone to lodge a complaint at a family redressal cell in Hanpspuram police outpost of Naubasta where she met S-I Santosh Kumar, who, on the pretext of helping her, took her phone number.

KANPUR: A sub-inspector posted at Makanpur police outpost here has been booked for allegedly raping a woman and forcing her to undergo abortion. The woman alleged in her complaint that she had gone to lodge a complaint at a family redressal cell in Hanpspuram police outpost of Naubasta where she met S-I Santosh Kumar, who, on the pretext of helping her, took her phone number.
“Kumar started summoning me to the police outpost frequently on some or the other pretext.
He threatened to book my husband in a fake case. He forced me to enter into a physical relationship with him. When I became pregnant, he forced me to undergo an abortion,” the survivor alleged in her complaint.
Even after the abortion, Kumar continued to blackmail and sexually exploit her, the survivor alleged.
According to police sources, the woman met SSP on Wednesday and narrated her ordeal. “SSP ordered an inquiry. On Thursday night, the accused was booked under IPC sections at Naubasta police station,” said inspector Naubasta Samar Bahadur Yadav. The accused SI is yet to be arrested, he added.
