Soldier from Kanpur martyred in Kashmir

KANPUR: A pall of gloom descended the native village of Army jawan Rohit Kumar Yadav (25), who, after being injured in an encounter with militants in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, succumbed on Thursday.
Rohit, native of Ambedkar Nagar in Derapur area of Kanpur Dehat, had suffered grievous injuries during a gun battle with three militants in Handew area of Shopian on Thursday.All the three militants were killed in the encounter.
Rohit of 17 Rajputana Rifles is survived by wife Vaishnavi, father, Gangadeen, who retired from the Army, mother Vimla and one younger brother, Sumit. The villagers thronged Derapur house of Rohit on Friday morning to console his widow, parents and other family members. He did his intermediate in 2010, joined the Army in 2011, and got married in April 2016, said his family members. District and police officials visited the martyr’s house and offered condolences. As per family members, his mortal remains would reach the village on Saturday, and the last rites would be performed the same day.
“Officials informed us about Rohit’s martyrdom on Thursday. We were also told that three militants were also killed in the operation. We are proud of his sacrifice,” said his father Gangadeen, who retired as a hawaldar from Army Service Core. Rohit was a brave man and very down to earth person. I am proud of my son, he added. Sumit, Rohit’s younger brother, who runs a hardware and cement store, said he (Rohit) came home in April this year and discussed various family issues.
Rohit’s wife Vaishnavi had to be examined by doctors of the Community Health Centre after she fainted at the house on receiving news of her husbands martyrdom.
It may be mentioned that Shyam Babu, who was one among the CRPF jawans killed in a bomb attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on February 14, also hailed from Derapur area of Kanpur Dehat.
