Kanpur: DJ, his friends thrash man to death in wedding function

KANPUR: A 26-year-old youth was allegedly battered to death by a disc jockey (DJ), when he requested to play a song during a wedding being held at a guest house in Shyamnagar area here under the limits of Chakeri police station in the city on Monday night.
The incident occurred around midnight when Gaurav Gupta, a resident of Lokman Mohal who worked as a courier delivery boy, was celebrating his friend Ritesh’s wedding ceremony.
“When Gaurav asked the DJ, Avneesh, to play a song the latter refused saying that the function was over and got into a scuffle with him,” said SHO Chakeri Ajay Seth. During the fight, Gaurav reached the DJ floor and allegedly threw away Avneesh’s laptop following which it got damaged, he added.
“Avneesh, thereafter summoned his friends Sonu Sharma, Ravi Yadav and Nihal. They attacked Gaurav leaving him critically wounded. The marriage guests thereafter intervened and pacified the two sides. They rushed Gaurav to Kanshiram Trauma Centre, where he succumbed to the injuries,” the SHO added.
The accused fled from the scene immediately after the incident.
“A case has been registered under relevant sections of IPC including 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) following a complaint by Gaurav’s Father Mahaveer and investigations are underway. Two persons related to the four accused have been detained for questioning,” he added.
