KANPUR: A 40-year-old labourer, native of Bihar, who was working with Ghatampur power plant in the district, was found dead under mysterious circumstances near the L& T site office on Friday. Police identified the deceased as Ashok Sharma, native of Rohtas district in Bihar.
The incident sparked protest by the power plant co-workers, who alleged that going by the prima facie circumstantial evidence, its seems that Ashok was beaten to death as his body bore injury marks.
They have demanded immediate arrest of those responsible for Ashok's death, and a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to his family. Senior district and police officials, including SDM Ghatampur, Varun Pandey and Circle Officer Shailendra Singh, rushed to the spot along with heavy police force and pacified the agitating labourers, who had refused to give body of the deceased to the police.
The CO said, “Ashok, who was working at the plant for the last four months, on Thursday afternoon told his co-workers that he was suffering from nausea. After some time he went out to purchase medicines.
