KANPUR: The route map of Kanpur Metro project will remain unchanged and government structures, including a portion of the GSVM Medical College, coming in its way will be demolished.
Modalities of acquiring land belonging to various government departments, including GSVM Medical College for the project will be worked out later.
In a meeting of officials from various government agencies and departments held in Lucknow on Monday to review the progress of the project, it was decided that efforts would be made to ensure that minimum damage is caused to existing structures coming in way of the Metro route.

According to administration sources, GSVM Medical College was looking forward to some change in the Kanpur Metro route to save a portion of its building.
However, after a joint inspection by authorities of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) and Kanpur Development Authority (KDA), it was decided that the change in route was not possible. KDA is the nodal agency for Kanpur Metro project.
Giving this information, vice-chairperson, Kanpur Development Authority (KDA), Kinjal Singh said there would be no change in the Kanpur Metro route as it has been finalised.

“The structures of various government departments falling in Kanpur Metro route will be demolished but with due care,” she said .
Modalities and other details will be worked out in due course.
Singh said the owners of staff quarters located on Government Polytechnic campus, which are being demolished for the project, would be provided alternative accommodation.
“The government departments which have to provide land for Kanpur Metro will also have to issue no-objection certificate (NOC) for felling 396 trees coming in the route of Kanpur Metro,” she said, adding that another meeting regarding the project would be held with chief secretary soon.
In the first phase, Kanpur Metro will run between IIT and Motijheel in Swaroop Nagar. Metro will run over the ground between IIT and Motijheel and all technicalities related to it are being worked out so that work may be expedited by October.
