KANPUR: A 16-year-old rape survivor and her mother were allegedly assaulted and threatened in Ahirwan area of Chakeri by the accused and his aides for refusing to withdraw a rape case she had filed against him in October last year.
According to police, the girl was attacked on Monday morning when she was returning home from somewhere. Accused Vicky, along with his four aides, after waylaying the girl, had assaulted her.
When her mother came to her rescue, she too was thrashed brutally, said a police officer. “They threatened to kill her and her family members if she did not withdraw the rape case and change her statement in the court,” the police officer further said.
The attackers fled when the girl and her mother raised an alarm after which some people in the area rushed to their aid. “A case has been registered under relevant sections of the IPC at the Chakeri police station. Police are on the lookout for the accused Vicky, who is absconding,” the police officer added.
The girl was allegedly kidnapped last year in October and raped by Vicky, a local. Her parents thereafter registered an FIR. The accused was subsequently arrested and sent to jail. He was released on bail a few days ago.
According to the police, the teenager alleged that the accused had been threatening to kill her if she refused to withdraw the case. She claimed the threats and pressure began after the suspect was released on bail.
“We are investigating the case and trying to arrest the accused,” said inspector Chakeri Ranjit Rai.
