Streets marooned as heavy showers lash city for 3rd day
Kanpur: The city has received over 100 mm rain since Tuesday with heavy showers lashing the city for the third consecutive day on Thursday.
On Tuesday, the rain gauge was 22.5 mm while on Wednesday the city received 25.6 mm rainfall followed by 56.2 mm rainfall on Thursday. The city has never received this much rainfall on August 22 since 2008, said the Met department of CSA University adding that more rains are in the offing this week.
Dense and dark clouds will envelope the sky, they said.
On Thursday, the city woke up to downpour accompanied with thunderstorm which started in early morning hours and continued for a couple of hours. The students and office goers were worst affected by the heavy showers resulting in heavy waterlogging in many areas of the city.
Severe waterlogging was reported in many reas including Cycle Market in Parade, PPN Market, P. Road, Kaushalpuri, Lal Bangla, Kakadeo, Lajpat Nagar, Juhi, Naubasta, Shankaracharya, Govind Nagar, Chawla Market, RTO road in Sarvodaya and others.
Rain water also accumulated in localities including Gadariyanpurwa, Deep Talkies road Saket Nagar, Kidwai Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Shyam Nagar, Jawahar Nagar, Pandu Nagar, Kalyanpur, Indira Nagar, Chapera Puliya, Ashok Nagar, Geeta Nagar, Awas Vikas One, Manswanpur, Gooba Garden, Radhapuram Society, Patrakarpuram, Fazalganj, Dada Nagar, Swaroop Nagar, Arya Nagar and VIP road.
Commuters had a tough ride as either raods were waterlogged or had turned slippery due to silt collected on the roads.
