KANPUR: Suspecting his wife of infidelity, a 46-year-old man allegedly shot her dead in Kanhau Yaqubpur locality under
Mohammadabad Kotwali jurisdiction in
Farrukhabad district on Thursday.
The incident took place at around 8 a.m. after a scuffle broke out between Anil
Katheria and his 42-year-old wife Preeti. Locals caught Katheria and alerted the
Mohammadabad police.
The woman's family members have lodged an FIR in this regard, police said.
The accused, who was arrested soon after the incident, allegedly confessed that he killed his wife as she was having an extra-marital affair. As per Anil, he had reprimanded his wife on many occasions, but she did not pay heed to his warnings, police said. Anil works in Faridabad and is basically a native of Kanhau Yaqubpur. Mohit had come to take part in marriage function of his cousin sister a couple of days ago. On Thursday morning, a brawl erupted between them. The fight took an ugly turn and Anil in a fit of rage opened fire at her from a country-made firearm, police added.
He further said that Anil has been arrested, and added police have also recovered country-made firearm used in the crime. The body of the deceased was shifted to mortuary for post-mortem examination.
"A case has been registered under section 302 of IPC and Arms Act against accused Anil. He has been arrested and sent to jail," DySP Mahavir Singh.
