KANPUR: A man who wore a T-shirt with the message ‘Hum Nahi Sudhrenge (I will not mend my ways)’ written on it has been arrested for harassing girls and women in Bidhnoo area of the district on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, a 32-year-old woman was returning home from a temple when the accused, Sonu Giri, approached her and tried to drag her following which the woman screamed for help.
The accused fled from the spot while a passerby found the woman and helped her. The passerby then dropped her at her house.
Following the incident, the woman shared her ordeal with her husband and went to alleged molester’s house to lodge a complaint with his family members. But to their shock, the accused instead presented himself with a T -shirt carrying a threat message, “Hum Nahi Sudhrenge”. The couple thereafter approached Bidhnoo police and lodged a complaint against him.
Following the FIR, a police team was formed and a manhunt was launched.
With the details received from local informers, Sonu Giri was nabbed on Wednesday. During interrogation, the accused confessed to have committed similar crimes in the past. He admitted that he had purchased the T -shirt from a local market. “We have arrested Sonu Giri after booking him under relevant sections of IPC. Further investigations are underway,”said SHO Bidhnoo Sukhram Singh Rawat.
