Body of drowned youth recovered

After a strenuous search by the scuba divers of Southern Naval Command and fire and rescue department that lasted for more than 12 hours, the body of Jennis Earnest, the 23-year old youth who drowned in the Chilavannoor Canal near Elamkulam on Sunday evening was recovered on Monday.

KOCHI: After a strenuous search by the scuba divers of Southern Naval Command and fire and rescue department that lasted for more than 12 hours, the body of Jennis Earnest, the 23-year old youth who drowned in the Chilavannoor Canal near Elamkulam on Sunday evening was recovered on Monday.
The body was recovered around 5.30pm from a few metres away from the spot where he drowned.
“The scuba divers had a tough time in the canal that was filled with thick slush hindering the search. A 20-member team led from Gandhinagar fire station, who conducted the search till late night, had to stop the operation due to visibility issues and slush. The operation was resumed on Monday morning with the help of naval scuba divers and found the body trapped in the slush,” said Gandhinagar station fire officer A Unni Krishnan. A case of unnatural death has been registered. Jennis’ body will be handed over to relatives after postmortem on Tuesday. tnn
