KOCHI: The India meteorological department (IMD) has issued warning of isolated heavy rainfall in some districts in the state this week.
Yellow alert has been sounded for Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur for Wednesday. Rain or thundershowers are likely at many places in Kerala and Lakshadweep. The warning is for Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram and Wayanad on Thursday.
Fishermen have been warned against venturing out into the sea as strong winds from southwesterly direction with speed reaching up to 45-55 kmph are likely over Southwest Bay of Bengal.

The southwest monsoon has been weak over Kerala. Rain occurred at many places in Lakshadweep and at a few places in Kerala. The highest rainfall was in Kuppady (Wayanad), which recorded 7cm of rain. Ambalavayal in Wayanad received 4cm rain while Palakkad and Idukki recorded 2cm each.
The presence of deep clouds especially indicates that Idukki, Pathanamthitta, Wayanad, Kasaragod and Kannur would experience heavy rains with lightning. "It will be intense rain of short duration," said S Abhilash, associate professor, Advanced Centre for Atmospheric Radar Research, Cochin University of Science and Technology.
A feeble off-shore trough is extending from coastal Karnataka to Kerala, which will bring some rains to the region.
Private agency Skymet Weather said that the equatorial sea surface temperatures (SST) continue to decline for the third consecutive week. In fact, this week the drop was a significant one wherein it has declined from 0.4°C last week to 0.1°C.
