Woman in coma shifted from Lakshadweep to Kochi by Indian Navy helicopter
The 43-year-old patient patient suffering from cerebro vascular accident (CVA) or stroke with cerebral haemorrhage and in need of urgent medical evacuation was taken to Kochi.
KOCHI: An urgent medical evacuation of a patient in coma from Indira Gandhi Hospital, Kavaratti to Kochi was carried out by Southern Naval Command (SNC) on a request received from the Lakshadweep administration on May 16.
The patient, Cheriyabi PP (43), a resident of Kalpeni was critically ill, suffering from cerebro vascular accident (CVA) or stroke with cerebral haemorrhage and in need of urgent medical evacuation was taken to Kochi.

A naval Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) was immediately launched by the Southern Naval Command from INS Garuda, with medical personnel embarked, at 10.45 am to evacuate the patient from Kavaratti to Kochi. The Naval liaison team at Kavaratti provided assistance in transferring the patient, along with medical escort, to the helicopter. The patient, along with the escort, was flown to INS Garuda, Naval Base, Kochi for handing over to a medical team for further treatment at VPS Lakeshore Hospital at Ernakulam. She is now admitted at VPS Lakeshore hospital and the doctors are examining her.
