KOHIMA: Sharingain Longkumer, a first-time legislator, was elected unopposed as the deputy speaker of the
Nagaland assembly on Tuesday.
Speaker Vikho-o Yhoshu said only Longkumer had filed nomination for the post.
The post fell vacant following a reshuffle in the ministry on July 23, in which the then deputy speaker Zhaleo Rio was made a minister.
Longkumer, 37, was elected as the ruling
Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) nominee in a byelection from Aonglenden seat on April 11.
Chief minister
Neiphiu Rio and leader of Opposition TR Zeliang congratulated the newly-elected deputy speaker.
Longkumer thanked everyone and sought the cooperation and support of the all the members of the House.
