MOHANPUR (NADIA): Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya vice-chancellor Dharani Dhar Patra has put in his papers on Friday, days after West Bengal governor and chancellor Jagdeep Dhankhar gave him an extension of six months. The VC’s present tenure was scheduled to end on Tuesday.
“I have resigned because of some personal issues and sent my resignation letter to the governor this afternoon,” the VC said.

Patra’s resignation came after the TMC-backed BCKV Karmachari Samsad started an agitation in front of his bungalow and administrative building. This was supported by some faculty members and TMC workers. The VC had alleged that the agitators broke the lock of his bungalow.
BCKV employees’ union spokesperson Maran Dey said, “The governor, who is also the chancellor of the university, can give extension to the VC. But that should have been done in consultation with the state government. The way it was done was undemocratic.”
