KOLKATA: The probe in to the kidnapping of a scion of the Khandelwal family, which owns Paras Pan Masala Group, has established that the crime was planned well in advance with the "mastermind" operating from behind. The detective department, along with the Girish Park police, has found that the Maruti Ertiga used to kidnap Manoj Khandelwal has been using a fake registration number, an indication that it was an organized gang that was planning the crime.

Police sources said that they traced the car to a marriage hall in Kolkata where the owner vouched his vehicle never left the city in the past two days. The police officers said they have now collected call record dump of the area and the call details made from the phones of the accused. "The accused might be hailing from Bihar, but we believe all of them have been residing in Kolkata for the past several years. They are also being questioned to ascertain how they procured the weapons,"claimed a police source.
Sharing the development, the Kolkata Police and Asansol Police, which are probing the case, said that the accused were in constant touch with someone over the phone for around four hours that they were driving on the highway.
"We have not found any criminal cases registered in Bengal against the accused. The money offered was extremely low, hence we believe that these are newcomers. But, we have asked for a list of all office employees of Khandelwal and CCTV footages of his office in the past three to ten days. We will need to question a few of them, if required. Unless we question the accused in detail in Kolkata, we cannot comment on the insider angle," claimed a source. Asansol police hinted all seizures have been forwarded to Kolkata Police, including the weapons and phones.
