Kolkata lockdown news: Flights to resume from Thursday

Amid prevalent chaos and uncertainty over access to the essential services and commodities during the lockdown, we bring you the latest updates from your city.
* Update at 10.45pm: The Covid-19-induced lockdown, intricate protocols and copious impediments did not deter the determination of Assam's Kajol and West Bengal's Om Prakash to tie the knot after travelling a lengthy route.
The lockdown and Covid-19 related rules forced the young couple to marry at an open space along the West Bengal-Assam inter-state border.
* Update at 9.45pm: Six more people died due to Covid-19 in West Bengal on Monday, taking their number to 206 as 149 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the state, a bulletin issued by the Health Department said. Of the six fatalities due to the contagion, four were from the metropolis and one death each was reported in North 24 Parganas and Howrah districts, it said.
* Update at 8.45pm: A police constable, who was admitted to a state-run hospital here with "respiratory problems and other Covid-19 symptoms", died on Monday morning, sparking anger and anxiety among his colleagues, who staged a protest, alleging negligence on the part of their seniors.
* Update at 7.45pm: National carrier Air India will resume its operations from Mizoram from Thursday, though domestic passenger flights restarted services across the country after a gap two months on Monday, an official said. GoAir and IndiGo, two other airlines having services in Mizoram, were yet to announce their schedule for recommencement of flights from Aizawl, he said.
* Update at 6.45pm: Domestic air travel resumed in Assam on Monday along with several other states, as the first flight arrived at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport here from Delhi in the morning, an official said. The first flight to Guwahati landed from Delhi this morning, carrying 77 passengers, who were immediately taken for screening and for collection of swabs at a hotel near the airport.

* Update at 5.45pm: Swab samples of 31 persons out of 60, who had travelled with a Covid-19 positive man from Delhi in buses, have tested negative in Arunachal Pradesh, a senior health official said on Monday. The result of 26 samples is awaited and samples of three more persons will be examined, the official said.
* Update at 4.45pm: Eid-ul-fitr celebrations in Kolkata and its neighbourhood turned out to be a low-key affair this year, as people marked the culmination of the fasting month of Ramzan by offering prayers from the confines of their homes, amid the coronavirus-triggered lockdown.
* Update at 3.45pm: Except Guwahati and Imphal airports, no passenger flight landed at any other airport in the north-eastern states on Monday as the Kolkata airport, hit by the cyclone Amphan last week, was shut, said top AAI officials. Sanjeev Jindal, Airport Authority of India (AAI) Regional Executive Director (NER), said as airports in the northeast were mainly connected with the Kolkata airport, flights to most N-E airports couldn't be operated.
* Update at 2pm: A young doctor who got infected on the line of duty is now back to work in Kolkata’s tertiary level Covid hospital after being discharged from the hospital and completing the mandatory home isolation.

* Update at 12.30pm: Totos, one of the least populous tribes in the world, have been hit hard by the lockdown in their abode Totopara in West Bengal's Alipurduar district due to the unique geographical location of their village, residents said on Monday. (PTI)
* Update at 11.40am: Eight flights are arriving at Guwahati airport today, with some of them landing with full passenger capacities. All passengers will be scanned for Covid-19 at the airport. People from Assam will be segregated & send to their respective district by buses: Assam minister HB Sarma. (ANI)

* West Bengal on Sunday recorded 208 fresh Covid-19 cases, the highest single-day spike yet, bringing the state’s cumulative tally to 3,667 cases, a day after virologists expressed fears of a sudden rise as a possible fallout of the cyclone.
* Domestic flights to and from Kolkata will resume from May 28 (Thursday), instead of May 25 (Monday), following a request of Bengal government on Saturday, which cited the twin crisis of Covid-19 pandemic and cyclone disaster in south Bengal. Flights to Bagdogra will also resume on May 28.
* Assam is contemplating re-sealing the inter-state borders from June 2 to check further flow of home-bound people by road as the state’s Covid-19 count surged towards the 400-mark after 32 fresh cases were added to the overnight tally of 346. Seventeen people tested positive late on Saturday night, and, along with the 32 new cases on Sunday, the total number of cases in the state stands at 378.
* Three more persons tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Manipur late on Saturday night, taking the total number of cases to 32. The state state currently has 28 active cases as four people have been discharged from hospitals after being cured. All three have come back from outside the state.
