Electric Veng FC win Independence Day football meet in Mizoram

KOLKATA: Electric Veng FC won the Independence Day Football Tournament in Mizoram for the first time after they beat FC Venghnuai 2-1 in the summit clash of the meet at the Lammual Stadium in Aizawl on Thursday (August 15, 2019) evening.
It was a fast-paced start to the proceedings which resulted in end-to-end action. FC Venghnuai were proving to be the slightly more effective side in the early stages of the match and Vanlalthanga forced Electric Veng FC custodian Lalmuansanga into a good save with a powerful shot.
FC Venghnuai, who had got the better of Aizawl FC in the semifinal of the meet, eventually went ahead in the second session of the encounter in quite fortuitous manner after David Lalchhuanawma headed Vanlalthanga's corner-kick into his own net in the 78th minute.
However, their lead lasted just four minutes as youngster Ramhlunchhunga struck from a free-kick by Jacob Lalrawngbawla. Ramhlunchhunga then scored his second of the match just three minutes later through another assist by Jacob.
FC Venghnuai tried their best to find the equaliser but they were not successful as Electric Veng FC lifted the trophy.
