Engineering student, brother beat up Dum Dum sub-inspector

KOLKATA: An SI was beaten up by an engineering student and his brother inside a police outpost at Dum Dum on Tuesday night.
The student has been identified as Sadab Hossain and his brother Wasim Iqbal.
The incident took place when the SI, Shibcharan Mondal, seized the phone of Sadab, a second-year electrical engineering student at a private engineering college at Dum Dum's Chhatakal.
Sadab was summoned to the police station on Tuesday evening for interrogation following a ruckus in front of the engineering college. A police officer said, "There was a students' clash in front of the college a couple of weeks ago over smoking on the campus. Later, another clash broke out after a student tried to stop some others from smoking near the college. Police also registered a case after a complaint was lodged at the Ghughudanga outpost," a police officer said.
Sadab was named in the complaint for being involved in the clash and was summoned by the cops. Accompanied by his brother, he visited the outpost.
"Mondal was questioning Sadab in connection with the clash. During interrogation, his brother Iqbal, suddenly took out his smartphone and started recording the interrogation," said an investigating officer.
The SI was hospitalized as he was badly hit on his head and face. The duo was remanded in police custody for five days after being produced at a Barrackpore court on Wednesday.
