KOLKATA: The Kolkata
Metro Railway’s passenger count and earnings of the metro have been increased in the first five and a half months in this
financial year (2019-20) in comparison to the same period of 2018-19. The
Kolkata Metro has carried 5.82 lakh passengers a day on an average.
During the period from April 1 to August 15, 2019, the metro railway carried 784.13 lakh passenger in comparison to 779.14 lakh passengers carried in the same period of the financial year 2018-19 with an increase of 4.99 lakh passengers.
Earnings of the metro rail have gone up during the same period from Rs. 7477.90 lakh to Rs. 7497.81 lakh with an increase of Rs. 19.91 lakh.
In the period from April 1, to July 31, the Kolkata Metro carried 698.49 lakhs passengers in comparison to 690.60 lakhs in the same period of the previous financial year (2018-19) which is an increase of 7.89 lakhs.
During the same period the Kolkata’s metro earnings have gone up from Rs 5,696.36 lakh to Rs 5,724.47 lakh, an increase of Rs 28.11 lakhs.
Kolkata Metro, significantly, has the lowest fare structure among all others in the country. The minimum fare of Kolkata metro is Rs 5 and maximum fare Rs 15. Total length of the journey is 27.22 km.
