KOLKATA: Two youths were arrested from
New Town in Salt Lake while possessing three live
bombs and a sharp knife late on Monday evening.
"The two youths have been identified as Tarun Mondal (22) and Debabrata Mondal (21), residents of Akandakeshari in New Town. They were picked up from near a bridge towards Sukhobrishti residential apartment, where they had possibly gathered to commit a crime on two motorbikes," police said.
"We are grilling the youths to find out why they had the weapons and explosive and who were their targets.
We are also questioning if they were hired by someone else to spread terror and commit crimes," said an officer of Bidhannagar Commissionerate.
They have been produced before a Barasat court by the cops on Tuesday with a plea for police remand.
The
arrest comes at a time when the state is reeling under political violence on a daily basis.
On Monday night, a Trinamool worker was killed and three other supporters were injured after a bomb explosion at Bhatpara in North 24 pargans. Earlier at Howrah, bodies of two BJP workers were found hanging from a tree as the party cried foul play. On Saturday, four persons were killed in a BJP - TMC clash at Sandeshkhali in north 24 parganas.
