Mukundapur death: GRP to summon victim's friends
KOLKATA: The Baruipur GRP that is probing the mysterious death of a Mukundapur businessman, Amit Ghosh, has decided to summon a few of his close friends and record their statements.
The move came after a special investigation team - led by a DIG-level officer - met Ghosh's father Swapan on Saturday and promised a fair probe. The police have also formally lodged a case of murder based on Swapan's complaint.

"We have collected Ghosh's call record details for the past three months, which show he was in touch with a few friends, including a woman who resides in the nearby Kalitala area. We are going to note down the specific timings of certain calls and, based on our findings, might ask a few of his friends to help with the probe. We are also consulting the autopsy surgeon on the exact cause of death," said an officer.
Swapan told TOI he was satisfied that he was allowed to lodge an FIR. "I want justice for my son. He had gone out with his fiancee to complete the shopping for his wedding. He had been attending to the chores in the mornings but remained distracted in the evenings. I asked the cops to check his calls that came after 6pm," he said.
Police sources said, in all probability, Ghosh left his residence around 4am on February 9. "His bike was found in the Jheel Road area close to both Dhakuria and Jadavpur railway stations. We will check for CCTV footage at both places to trace his movements and ascertain if someone was with him. He must have travelled another 50km towards Mathurapur since his body was found between Baharu and Joynagar Majilpur Halt, with injuries on his face and head," said an officer.
