KOLKATA: An Andaman-bound Air India flight from Kolkata carrying 137 passengers returned to the city around 1am on Friday morning due to inclement weather conditions at Port Blair, which made landing impossible. As the flight returned, another 135 Kolkata-bound passengers, who had been waiting at Port Blair to board the same flight for their return journey, were stranded at the airport through the night till the flight reached Port Blair on Friday morning.

The special chartered flight flies every Thursday and had taken off on time — 10.30pm.
“The special flight took off on time but the weather at the destination was not favourable for landing. So, the flight had to come back to Kolkata early on Friday,” said an AI official. He added the same flight was scheduled to fly back to Kolkata with passengers from Andaman. Since it could not land there, the passengers in Port Blair were also stranded. “When the weather improved, the flight started for Port Blair around 9.45am on Friday and returned to Kolkata with all 135 passengers around 2.30pm,” said the official.
