KOLKATA: A College Street bookseller claimed to have lost Rs 35,000 in cash and important documents, such as PAN, Aadhaar card and voter ID card in theft at his shop on Monday afternoon. No book was stolen.
According to Santi Bhusan Saha, the incident took place between 4pm and 4.15pm, when he had just left his shop, located on Bankim Chatterjee Street at College Square East.
From Gholabazar in North 24 Parganas, Saha (64) has been operating this shop outside Presidency University for years.
A case has been registered at the Amherst Street police station. Police said they were scanning CCTV cameras for leads. “Some local crook seems to have been behind the theft. Such incidents are, however, rather rare in this part,” said an officer.
