KOLKATA: A deaf and mute student of Class V at a Garia school was allegedly thrashed by a teacher on Wednesday. The boy's parents lodged a complaint against the accused at the Sonarpur police station.
When victim Subhajit Das - a student at Mahamayapur Adarsha Vidyapith - returned home on Wednesday, his mother Aparna noticed that he was behaving oddly. When she asked what was wrong, he broke down and wrote the accused teacher's name on a piece of paper, explaining in sign language that he had been thrashed in school.
Aparna spoke to the school's academic secretary, Suparna Raha, and teacher-in-charge Pradipta Mondal who assured her that they would convene a meeting with teachers on Thursday.
The parents also lodged a complaint against another teacher who had thrashed Subhajit a few months ago.
Later in the day, Suparna went to the Das's house with five school teachers and assured his parents that such incident would never occur again.
An officer of the Sonarpur police station said, "We are probing into the matter."
