KOLKATA: IndiGo Airlines is set to launch three new flights from Kolkata from July 20. This includes a flight to Meghalaya’s capital Shillong under the regional connectivity scheme. Of the three new flights that will be operated with ATR aircraft, two will connect Kolkata with Raipur one in the afternoon and the other in the evening. The first flight will depart Raipur at 12 noon and reach Kolkata at 2.25pm.
The second flight will depart Raipur at 9.15pm and reach Kolkata at 11.15pm. There is, however, only one return flight connecting Kolkata with Raipur, which will depart at 7pm daily to reach Raipur at 8.55pm.
The third flight will connect Kolkata with Shillong. It will take off from Kolkata at 2.45pm and reach Shillong at 4.25pm. The return flight will take off at 4.45pm and reach Kolkata at 6.30pm. The flight will reduce travel time to Shillong by at least 2 hours. At present, one has to take an hour and 20 minutes flight to Guwahati from Kolkata and then travel for three hours by road to reach Shillong. The airport is around 30 km from the capital.
IndiGo chief commercial officer William Boulter said, “We are strengthening our network from Kolkata with six new flights, including a new RCS route. Kolkata-Shillong-Kolkata, our next RCS route, will significantly increase connectivity and tourist traffic in the northeast region. Shillong will be the 54th domestic destination in our network. With this expansion, we hope to create more affordable, point-to-point connectivity for our passengers.”
