KOLKATA: A BJP booth president at Rabindra area at Kakdwip, who has been missing since Saturday, was found dead on Sunday morning. While the BJP leaders alleged that he was murdered after having an altercation with a Trinamool Congress leader, police registered a case of unnatural death.
The victim Kader Mollah’s body was retrieved from the Kalnagini river on Sunday morning when the fishermen were catching fish. While his mouth had blood stains, there was injury mark on his head, locals said.
Mollah, a booth president of the BJP’s minority cell, had joined the party almost six years back. Local BJP leaders claimed that Mollah was instrumental in spreading the party in the district. A few days back Mollah and several other local leaders lodged a complaint with the police after they noticed some communally sensitive materials being distributed in the area. While cops took immediate steps, local BJP leaders started getting threats since then.
Mollah, who has been missing since Friday night, was last seen by his son. A missing complaint was lodged with the police. “We have already informed the police that Mollah and his uncle Jamshed are being targeted by the miscreants,” said Abhijit Das, district president of the BJP. While the BJP demanded arrest of the murderer, police said that he might have accidentally fallen in the river. The body has been sent for autopsy.
