KOLKATA: Bullets flew and at least eight people, including three cops, were injured in a Trinamool-BJP clash in Sodepur on Monday evening. The of injured received bullet wounds. Four persons have been arrested so far in this connection.
Locals alleged that the rival groups exchanged fire and hurled bombs at each other during the clash.
According to local sources, the trouble broke out after a meeting at BJP's Ghola mondal president Sagar Paul's house at Sodepur's Purbapally.
BJP's Northern suburbs president Kishore Kar alleged that some local criminals, backed by Trinamool, attacked the BJP supporters.
A fresh clash broke out in front of the Ghola police station when both the Trinamool and BJP men went their to lodge complaints. Again shots were fired and bombs hurled. BJP alleged that police refused to register their complaint. They blocked the Sodepur-Barasat Road for over an hour.
RAF and combat forces had to be deployed to bring the situation under control.
Panihati Trinamool MLA Nirmal Ghosh said, "BJP leaders brought armed goons from outside to their meeting. They attacked our supporters." A senior officer of the Barrackpore commissionerate said: "A raid is on. The situation is now under control."
