KOLKATA: The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education has postponed its proposal to combine the question papers and answer scripts from 2020 Class-XII examinations. As per the council authorities, the upcoming exam scheduled will be held as per the old model and not the question cum-answer booklet format.
According to the earlier plan, examinees wouldn’t have been leaving the hall with question papers.
“The council had to scrap or rather postpone the plan after encountering several hurdles, including opposition from headmasters who said that their cost would increase manifold during the exam,” said a source.
He added, “We make arrangements for 10-12 pages of booklet in which answers are written. But, the sudden diktat by the council in June would have resulted in increase in number of pages per booklet to up to 60. The additional cost was supposed to be borne by the schools for which no funds were allocated.”
Some officials also indicated that though the exam registration fee has been increased, it was not shared with the schools. “Moreover, this time the test is scheduled in November. Teachers have no clue regarding the pattern that had to be followed in case the HS was conducted in the booklet format. Probably, keeping all these issues in mind, the council has postponed the decision,” said another source.
