LUCKNOW: The bike rally, organised as part of the statewide Kamal Sandesh Yatra of Bharatiya Janata Party, brought the city to a standstill and led to massive traffic jams in the key stretches of the state capital on Saturday.
BJP workers, most of them without helmet, began the rally at around 11am from Raj Bhawan which concluded at the 1090 crossing.
Traffic remained affected for almost three hours, leaving commuters stranded during peak hours.

The worst affected were Lohia Path, Mall Avenue, Raj Bhawan, Bapu Bhawan, Hazratganj and its adjoining areas. There was complete traffic mess on Lohia Path and 1090 crossing.
On 1090 crossing, roads leading to Jopling Road, Mithaiwala Chauraha, Janeshwar Mishra Park and Kalidas Marg remained blocked for hours with traffic policemen struggling to clear the mess manually.
Commuters vented their anger as policemen failed to put a check on jams which prevented them from reaching their destinations on time.
Commuters also complained that most of the workers who were part of the bike rally were not wearing helmets but police were not issuing any challan to them.
Amit Sinha, a BSc student, said, "On one hand, they direct us to follow traffic norms and when the same is done by any political party they remain tightlipped."
"This is intolerable. Every other protest that had been staged in the past seems to be small in front of this rally," said Rahil Khan.
