LUCKNOW: Six members of a family, including five children, were mowed down by a dumper in Rajouli area under Gudumba police station around 3am on Thursday. The driver of the dumper was arrested.
The three deceased children were identified as Deepak (4), Gauri (7) and Rani (10). Two of their siblings Akash (12) and Santoshi (8) and mother Urmila (55), were injured in the accident and are recuperating at KGMU trauma centre.
The family was sleeping on a cot outside Kanhaiyalal brick kiln when the dumper ran over them.
The route is a common short-cut that several vehicles take for Barabanki.
The impact of the crash was so intense that it lead to a loud thud, hearing which some locals woke up from their deep sleep. They gathered outside the kiln and informed the police. They began rescue operations in whatever way they could.
Some locals said that police took an hour to reach the spot after the information. In the meantime, the driver of the dumper fled.
ASP (trans-Gomti) Harendra Kumar said that a police team from Gudamba reached the spot and took all the six affected to KGMU trauma centre, where doctors declared Deepak, Gauri and Rani brought dead.
“We have seized the dumper and its driver Raj Kishore has been arrested,” Kumar added.
When TOI visited KGMU, a shattered Urmila said she was hoping for financial assistance from the state government. She has got multiple injuries on her body.

“I lost everything. It was a black day for us. My three children are no more. I hope Yogiji will provide some financial help to us,” said Urmila. Akash, who has got injuries on his back, hands and legs, said, “The dumper ran over us. It was terrifying. I got unconscious after the incident.” Santoshi’s condition is critical.
“The right side of her head is fractured. The patient is unconscious,” said doctors.
Kishore has been booked under charges of rash driving, death due to negligence and causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety. (By Samarth Srivastava)
