Lucknow: Daughter's ex killed woman over blackmail

LUCKNOW: Three days after an electric contractor's wife, Kiran Verma was found murdered at her house in Gudamba, Lucknow police arrested the killer on Tuesday and identified him as the former lover of her daughter.
Kiran (45) was found dead by her son Ashutosh (25) on June 8.
"We arrested a youth, identified as Abhay Kumar Singh (30) of Barabanki after his mobile's location was found near the victim's house on the fateful day.He has confessed to his crime," said SP (trans-Gomti), Amit Kumar.
"Abhay had an affair with the victim's elder daughter for over 10 years. Kiran was blackmailing Abhay," he added.
Abhay revealed during questioning that he was in love with Kiran's elder daughter. Kiran had some videos and photographs of Abhay and was threatening to make them public. She even forced Abhay to pay expenses of the wedding of her daughter with whom he was in love. She promised to destroy the videos and photographs but reneged on it after the wedding was solemnized," the SP added.
"Abhay had planned the murder several days back. He gave a movie ticket of SRS Mall in Gomtinagar to Ashutosh in the afternoon," Kumar said.
"On June 8, Abhay, an Ola driver, dropped passengers and parked his cab at a place. He went to Kiran's house knowing she was alone and asked her to return the videos and photographs. When a verbal spat started between them, he cut her throat with a knife. We have recovered the knife from the accused," he said.
