LUCKNOW: The autos and tempos operating on the metro route will be made to ply on alternate routes in Lucknow. On Tuesday, the district road safety committee issued directions to make a proposal to shift the autos and tempos plying on the route where metro is already available to new routes identified for the public transport in Lucknow district.
The meeting was chaired by the district magistrate, Lucknow, Kaushal Raj Sharma.
In the meeting, traffic department was directed to identify Lucknow's `vulnerable' locations, which have the potential to turn into a black spot, and take remedial measures to make such spots safe for movement of traffic. Any location that witnesses huge turnout of road users and/or has vehicles moving past in speed is vulnerable. It could be the location of a school building, marriage hall, weekly market or a crossing that has become busy over a period of time.
NHAI and PWD were directed to rectify black spots and submit a report. There are two parameters set by the Union ministry of road transport and highway (MoRTH) to define a black spot. It is either a location where an accident has occured along a 500 metre stretch for three consecutive years or a spot where at least ten casualties have taken place at the same time.
The committee also decided that in keeping with the expansion of the district, survey will be taken up to identify new routes for autos and tempos. There are 44 routes at present where autos and tempos ply in Lucknow. "We had identified at least 15 more. But in the meeting auto and tempo unions demanded at least 12 more routes. We will take up a fresh survey to identify additional routes," said ARTO (enforcement), Lucknow, Sanjeev Gupta.
The authorized tempo and auto stands, to serve as boarding and de-boarding points, will also be identified. Besides, NHAI was directed to work out ways to reduce congestion between Amausi and Banthara.
