Lucknow selected for Safe City project by MHA

LUCKNOW: The city of Lucknow will soon see exclusive women police outposts for facilitating filing of complaints by women, pink toilets, improved public transport services for women and exclusive women power line, with the city being selected for the Safe City project by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
With a total cost of Rs 194.44 crore approved by the MHA, the project will be implemented under the Nirbhaya Fund scheme as a centrally sponsored scheme with Centre and state contributing the funds in 60:40 ratio.

Lucknow is among eight cities selected for the project by MHA including Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad where the safety and security of the women in public places will be strengthened.
The Safe City proposal for Lucknow will be implemented by Uttar Pradesh Police, assisted by the Municipal bodies and city transport authorities with nine major components being part of the project.
These include setting up an Integrated Smart Control Room, setting up Pink Outposts (exclusively administered by women police) for facilitating ease of filing complaint by women, night patrols of women police, setting up women help desks in all police stations with counsellors, augmentation of existing Asha Jyoti Kendra, implementing safety measures in buses, installing CCTV cameras, improving street lighting in identified crime areas, setting up Pink Toilets and integration of Women Power helpline with single Emergency number ‘112’.
As per the MHA, the Safe City project for Lucknow also envisages gender sensitization awareness campaigns and capacity building in collaboration with community and civil society organizations.
