LUCKNOW: A 30-year-old aspiring lawyer was duped into paying Rs 11 lakh to a man who promised him a job with an MNC headquartered in the US.
Rajeev Dubey, a native of Farrukhabad district and pursuing an LLB degree from a private college in Chinhat, lodged an FIR on Friday against one Saurabh Singh who had posted an advertisement for law graduates in a vernacular daily.
“I saw the ad in February.
The job with the MNC’s India operations promised Rs 22,500 a month. I called a number mentioned in the ad. Saurabh Singh received the call and convinced me I was eligible. He promised an offer by March,” Dubey, who lives on rent in Vrindavan Yojana, told police.
However, Singh allegedly demanded Rs 11 lakh to facilitate the appointment. “I paid the money in instalments between March and June 10. The advertiser said the offer letter would directly come from the US. It never did.”
When Dubey called Singh, asking him to return the money, the latter allegedly threatened him with dire consequences.
In-charge, nodal cyber cell, Abhay Mishra said efforts were on to track down Singh.
