In an interaction between PM Narendra Modi and chief ministers of various states to discuss the Covid-19 situation in the country, UP CM Yogi Adityanath has appealed to him for a comprehensive containment plan for Delhi-NCR. The CM said that due to constant movement of people between Delhi and neighbouring districts, there was an urgent need for screening suspected and asymptomatic cases to stem the spread of the infection.
Allow institutional quarantine for asymptomatic: CM
The UP CM, who has already issued an alert for UP districts along the Delhi border for greater surveillance and to double the number of Covid-19 beds in hospitals, also requested the PM to allow institutional quarantine for asymptomatic patients.

Citing that UP has more than 1.01 lakh dedicated beds for Covid-19 patients, the CM said: “It is not possible to maintain discipline when kept in home quarantine. This not only puts the family of the infected person at risk but also people who come in contact with the family. To break the Covid-19 chain, please give us permission to keep even asymptomatic positive cases under institutional quarantine,” he said.
The CM apprised the PM of the various initiatives taken by the UP Government for containment and management of the viral disease. The CM said that TrueNat machines have been deployed in districts for faster tests while community-based surveillance was being used to keep a check on people who had returned to the state. He added that currently, UP was carrying out a little over 16,000 tests per day which could be increased to 20,000 by the month-end.
